Ever since the iPhone 11 series smartphones have been released, various tipsters and analysts have turned their attention to Apple’s much-anticipated iPhone 12 series smartphones. While Apple enthusiasts had marked their calendars for a September launch for the upcoming offering, but thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, the company has officially pushed it at least until October. Having said that, as the rumour mills never stop churning, here’s what we know so far about iPhone 12.
What Will the Apple iPhone 12 Look Like?
As per numerous leaks and reports that have come out so far, the Apple iPhone 12 family will reportedly have four models, namely the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, another 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and the largest being a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. As far as the designs of the iPhone 12 are concerned, these will reportedly no longer have curved edges and will have thinner bezels along with smaller notches than before. It has also been reported that the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models will pack aluminium frames while the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max respectively will sport stainless steel frames. These could also come with flat edges, a throwback to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 series design.
As far as the design of the new models is concerned, the iPhone 12 lineup are expected to be thinner than the iPhone 11, per a supply chain report. The report went on to say that the largest iPhone model, i.e. that 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max, could be 7.4mm thick. This could be a noticeable change, given the fact that iPhone 11 Pro is 8.1mm thick.
As far as display is concerned, the iPhone 2020 lineup could make use of Apple’s 120Hz “ProMotion” display. If this turns out to be true, it will be a massive step up from the latest 60Hz iPhone screens. Notably, a variety of phones in the market today offer at least a 90hz refresh rate with phones like the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Asus ROG Phone 3 going 120Hz and above. Additionally, all four iPhone 12 models are expected to sport OLED screens as well.
Coming to the specifications, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 12 series smartphone with its new A14 Bionic Chip. Memory options could include 4GB of RAM on the iPhone devices while the iPhone 12 Pro models are expected to house 6GB of RAM with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage. We are not sure, but there is a possibility that there will be no 64GB base variants on any of the new iPhones.
What Kind of Cameras Will iPhone 12 Sport?
According to long-time Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jon Prosser, the 5.4-inch and 6.4-inch iPhone models are expected to house two cameras, that are likely to be ultra-wide and wide-angle lenses. The iPhone 12 Pro models, on the other hand, are pegged to feature three sensors, namely, wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto, with a LiDAR scanner that Apple introduced in the recently launched iPad Pro. Additionally, leaks from the past also hinted that the iPhone 12 Pro Max will feature 4K recording at 240 frames per second, which will allow users to record crystal-clear slow-motion video in 4K resolution. Interestingly, there’s not much information on front-facing cameras in either of the four models so far.
Apple iPhone 12 Accessories
Having said that, if the details shared above got you excited, here’s some less-fun news to talk about. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is reportedly planning to leave both the wired EarPods and power adapter out of the iPhone 12 boxes. In fact, Kuo also suggested multiple times that the exclusion of both the charger and EarPods could be a strategic move by Apple not only to cut cost but also push the sales of the charger and also its wireless AirPods, separately. Furthermore, a report also hinted that Apple could launch as new 20W USB Type-C Charger to sell them separately as well.
Apple iPhone 12 Connectivity
Coming to something which could, perhaps, be the most important feature of them all, is the introduction of the 5G connectivity to all four iPhone 12 models. According to leaks and rumours, all four models of the iPhone 12 lineup will have support for both versions of 5G- sub-6GHz and mmWave. Previous reports have suggested that Apple is working on both variants of 5G to ensure that the models are not useful to users in the United States, but in other countries as well, where 5G roll outs are quite different. Furthermore, the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup could also be equipped with chips from Qualcomm as well.
