NEET and JEE Mains 2020 Updates: Will Exams Get Postponed? Check All Details Here

New Delhi: Exams have become a bone of contention between students, parents, and academic bodies. While students and parents remain apprehensive due to increasing Covid 19 cases in the country, academic bodies that are conducting the exams have assured that all safety measures will be taken. The exam dates for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination JEE(Mains) exams are nearing and according to the revised schedule, it will be held in September. Now there are opposing petitions in the Supreme Court regarding the exams. A parents’ association from Gujarat has filed a petition in support of the exams just days after students filed a plea seeking its cancellation.

Here are the latest updates for NEET and JEE (Mains) 2020:

Opposing petitions

A report by leading daily Hindustan Times says that Gujarat Parents Association has filed a plea before the Supreme Court asking that the exams be held according to schedule. The parents’ body says that cancellation of exams will lead to the loss of an academic year and impact their professional life.

“These exams are so important that they determine students’ career and also the entire life. As such, the Respondent Authorities must take into consideration as a relevant factor, the fact that any further deferment of the examination will further add to the stress levels of the students resulting in further traumatising the students with the uncertainty of their future and thereby severely impacting their academic performance in the ultimate examination to be held in future,” the reports said quoting the petition.

The petition comes after 11 students from different states filed a plea in the Supreme Court earlier this month seeking the postponement of JEE (Main) April 2020 and NEET-Undergraduate examinations due to the rising Covid 19 cases in the country.

“Conducting the aforesaid examination across India at such perilous time, is nothing else but putting lives of lakhs of young students (including petitioners herein) at utmost risk and danger of disease and death. The best recourse at this stage can be to wait for some more time, let COVID-19 crisis subside and then only conduct these exams, in order to save lives of the students and their parents,” said the plea which was filed through advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava.
